Andalusian World Cup 2015

"Wow what a show!!" In my book, up to this point this is the best horse show I have ever been to.

A person really does not need an excuse to go to Las Vegas, but how nice it would be to use your horse as an excuse to spend a week under the lights of Vegas. This year I had the opportunity to bring two horses (Carbon and Solferino). For a young horse Solferino did a great job hauling and seeing the lights of Vegas. As far as Carbon goes, this is just another walk in the park for him (been there done it.) This year I had two other guests join me for the journey, Rebecca Algar, and my new wife Lisa Harding. I have to say that my appreciation and respect for Rebecca has grown immensely. We learn a lot about a person when you in the car with them for 2,000 miles..12027112 10203487037335980 6678536406802912607 o

This has been a transitional year for me. My focus has been on Solferino and Lisa. This last spring, I decided to let Lisa take Carbon's reins to see what would happen. Anyone can succeed if they have heart, try and given the right opportunity. As many of you know, Lisa is the official photograph for this show. Why is this important to know? Just like earlier in the year at Pin Oak, Lisa rode Carbon in the advanced class as well as took pictures, so it takes a little extra  effort to make it all work out.  Like all other shows, Carbon is pretty much a reflection of the rider, "he is what he is". If the rider rides him steady and conservatively, he will do his job just so. Many folks do not know that Lisa has had decades of riding lessons with dressage instructors. Now it was time to put her knowledge to the test.

LUCK “opportunity meets preparation” It is better to be prepared and not have an opportunity than have an opportunity and not be prepared. At this point Lisa has been riding Carbon and competing him a little less than a year with improving success. Every ride she learns more about Carbon and her strengths and weaknesses. This show was her biggest challenge because she was up against the top rider in the world (Miguel Fonseca) Mi da Fonseca of Portugal. and other top national riders. I am proud to say she held her ground and rode well and conservatively. When the dust settled, she was reserve champion.

What about me and Solferino? The pictures say a thousand words. Did you see I am riding him one handed in the romel reins?  He held his ground and did a great job. Every time I ride him he improves by leaps and bounds. He has came a long ways in 12 months. I really did not go there to win. Hopfully, in time, Frat boy will be riddin one handed in the advance levels of WE. This was his first time in the bridle. All in all he did well one handed, but like building any bridle horse correctly, it takes time and experience.  I just wanted him to have a good experience and show him off a little.

Finally what made this show a lot of fun was seeing all my friends and family. Its not all about winning a ribbon, its the journey..
